Nissan Recalls Armada, Titan, and Pathfinder Models Due to Engine Stalling Risk
Nissan is recalling specific 2004-2006 models because a faulty relay may cause engine stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical component failure) that causes engine stalling, explicitly increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury risk.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 Armada, Titan, and Infiniti QX56 vehicles, as well as model year 2005-2006 Frontier, Pathfinder, and Xterra vehicles. The recall involves the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM) assembly, which contains an Engine Control Module (ECM) relay. This relay includes a diode for electrical current noise reduction that may allow silicon vapor to form. Over time, the silicon evaporates from the diode molding, causing silicon oxide to develop on the ECM relay contact due to arcing.
This defect could cause the engine to stall, which increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the ECM relay inside the IPDM assembly free of charge. The safety recall began on December 6, 2010. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
