Kodak Recalls ELPAC AC Adapters for Digital Cameras Due to Overheating

Eastman Kodak Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is voluntarily recalling 120,000 ELPAC AC adapters used with certain Kodak digital cameras. The adapters, manufactured by ELPAC Electronics Inc., have model numbers 2534, 2457, MI2008, and M42008. They were sold nationwide from March 1996 to August 1998 for between $40 and $80 as optional accessories for Kodak digital cameras with model numbers CD25, DC40, DC50, and DC120.
The recall is due to a hazard where the connector plug, if not fully inserted, can cause the camera batteries to overheat. This overheating can lead to the batteries leaking acid or exploding, which may cause thermal and chemical burns or lacerations to consumers. Kodak is aware of three reports of batteries overheating and rapidly discharging their contents while using these adapters, including one instance where a consumer suffered minor injuries when battery contents ejected onto their face and hand.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled AC adapters with their digital cameras. Kodak will replace the recalled adapters free of charge with redesigned, UL-listed ELPAC AC adapters.
