RELiON InSight Series Lithium Batteries Recalled for Thermal Burn and Fire Risk

RELiON Battery is recalling certain lots of InSight Series 48V lithium-ion batteries because they can overheat, posing thermal burn and fire hazards. The company has received five reports of overheating with no injuries reported to date.

Plain-English summary

RELiON Battery of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin is recalling certain lots of RELiON InSight Series® 48V lithium-ion batteries with model number 48V030-GC2. The recall affects batteries with specific serial number ranges: RB48300020210314057–RB48300020210314729, RB48300020210330001–RB48300020210330715, and RB48300020210507012–RB48300020221016550. Serial numbers can be found on the label located on the side of the battery.

The batteries can overheat, posing thermal burn and fire hazards. RELiON has received five reports of batteries overheating. No injuries have been reported.

These batteries were sold through authorized RELiON distributors and online at relionbattery.com from May 2021 through November 2022 for approximately $1,350. They are intended for use in golf carts, low-speed vehicles, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and outdoor utility terrain vehicles (UTVs). About 7,250 units were sold in the United States, with an additional approximately 121 units sold in Canada.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled batteries and contact RELiON Battery for a free repair. RELiON will provide a shipping container for return of the recalled batteries and will ship back a repaired battery with equivalent remaining cycle life. RELiON will also extend the warranty on replaced batteries for an additional six months.
