LG Energy Solution RESU 10H Batteries Recalled for Fire Hazard

LG Energy Solution is recalling about 11,500 RESU 10H lithium-ion residential energy storage batteries because they can overheat and pose a fire risk with harmful smoke emissions. One incident of smoking and fire with property damage has been reported.

LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. is recalling approximately 11,500 RESU 10H lithium-ion residential energy storage system batteries. These batteries are wall-mounted units measuring about 29 by 36 by 8 inches and weighing roughly 220 pounds. They are designed to store energy from residential solar panel systems. The batteries were distributed nationwide from March 2017 through March 2020 by various solar energy system distributors including Sunrun, AEE Solar, Baywa, CED, Krannich, Independent Electric Supply, and Inter Island Solar Supply, with a retail price of approximately $8,000.

The recalled batteries can overheat, creating a risk of fire and the emission of harmful smoke. The firm has received one report of the lithium storage batteries smoking and catching fire, which resulted in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers can identify recalled units by the LG logo on the top left of the front panel. The serial number of recalled products begins with R15563P3S and is located behind the access door. LG Energy Solution Michigan will provide remote software updates to batteries that are connected online. These diagnostic software updates monitor the battery cells and shut down the battery if a fire risk is detected. If the battery shuts down, consumers should not attempt to turn it back on and should contact LG Energy Solution Michigan for further instructions. For units not connected online, LG Energy Solution Michigan, its distributors, and installers will contact owners directly to arrange technician visits for manual software updates.
