The recall involves approximately 16,600 units sold in the United States and 1,500 units in Canada. These batteries were sold with bicycle light sets, including the Magicshine 900 Lumen (MJ-808), 1400 Lumen (MJ-816), and Tail light (MJ818) models, as well as separately. The Series I battery features a nylon pack enclosure, while the Series II battery is housed in an aluminum pack inserted into a fabric sleeve.
The lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The company has received three reports of batteries overheating and causing minor fires and property damage. No injuries have been reported.
The batteries were sold through GeoManGear's website from June 2009 through November 2010 for between $40 and $130. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled batteries. Those who purchased the batteries from GeoManGear and have not been contacted should visit www.MagicshineBatteryRecall.com to register for a free replacement battery.
