Nikon has received 14 reports of these cameras shorting, but none occurred in the United States. No injuries have been reported, though minor heat damage to the battery compartment has been reported.
These cameras were sold nationwide from July 30, 2002, through August 2002, for about $250, at department, electronic, computer, and camera stores, as well as mail-order and Web retailers. Consumers with a recalled camera should immediately remove the batteries and contact Nikon to receive a free replacement Coolpix 2000 digital camera.
