Casa Kids Recalls Cabina Bunk Beds for Fall Hazard

Casa Kids is recalling Cabina Bunk Beds because loose screws can cause the mattress foundation to fall, posing a risk to children.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fall hazard for children where no injuries have been reported, which aligns with the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Casa Kids is recalling approximately 195 Cabina Bunk Beds manufactured in February 2018, June 2018, May 2019, and December 2019. The beds were sold online at www.casakids.com from April 2018 through November 2020 for about $1,500. The recalled beds are made from Baltic birch plywood with natural and white painted surfaces. A label on the lower part of the bottom bunk bed's headboard panel displays the manufacture date in MONTH.YEAR format.

The recall is due to a fall hazard. The screws that hold the bed's mattress foundation to the guardrails can become loose, allowing the foundation to fall. Casa Kids has received nine reports from consumers that screws were spinning loose. In one incident, the foundation on a lower bed dislodged from one of its rails. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bunk beds until they have inspected the screws to ensure they are tightly in place. Casa Kids is contacting purchasers directly with instructions on how to inspect and repair the beds. The company will send a new set of screws to consumers who report that the guardrails are not tightly in place.
