Plain-English summary
Shearwater Research Inc. is recalling approximately 900 yellow diving pressure transmitters manufactured by Pelagic Pressure Systems. The transmitters, which provide tank pressure readings for scuba divers, may fail to signal pressure due to interference when two transmitters are used during the same dive. This failure poses a drowning hazard to divers.
The firm has received one report of loss of communication using the transmitter during a dive. The affected units are yellow, cylindrical, and measure 3 inches in length. They are identified by "FCC ID: MH8A" printed on the end, part number 13009 or 13009-01 on the packaging, and an 8-digit serial number starting with FK or BM etched on the side.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled transmitters and contact Shearwater Research to arrange a free repair or exchange. The products were sold nationwide and online from June 2017 through November 2018 for about $350.
