Ideations DiveAlert is recalling approximately 2,500 DiveAlert and DiveAlert PLUS scuba dive signaling devices with model numbers DA2, DP2, or DV2. The recall is due to a defect where the signaling device can malfunction during use, potentially restricting the diver's air flow and creating a drowning hazard. The affected devices are attached to a diver's buoyancy compensator device (BCD) power inflator or alternate regulator system and are used to activate a loud surface horn or underwater noise to alert others in emergencies.

The recalled units are distinguished by a chrome-plated brass coupling that has no stamped writing on the collar. The DA2 model is black with an orange button, the DP2 is black with a gray knob and red button, and the DV2 is black and red. These devices were sold at dive equipment stores nationwide from July 2009 through May 2013 for between $70 and $90. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled DiveAlert signaling devices. They should return the devices to an authorized DiveAlert dealer or directly to DiveAlert for a free repair, which involves replacing the defective female coupling.
