Under Sea Industries, Inc. is recalling approximately 800 Scubapro second-stage scuba regulators in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves the "SCUBAPRO" model 11-108-000 second-stage regulator and model 12-103-000 and 12-010-000 regulator systems. These units were sold in diving stores nationwide at retail prices ranging from $90 to $150.
The recall is issued because an integral exhaust valve, which allows the diver to exhale, may dislodge from its proper position. This displacement is believed to be caused by the unintentional application of silicon lubricant to the valve or valve seat during servicing. If the valve dislodges while the diver's tongue is blocking the mouthpiece and the purge button is depressed, the regulator can flood, posing a drowning hazard.
Divers who purchased these regulators or had them serviced between September 12, 1978, and April 1979, should return them to any authorized "SCUBAPRO" dealer for free repairs. Dealers can be found in the "Yellow Pages" section of the telephone directory under "Divers' Equipment and Supplies."
