Plain-English summary
Nestlé Waters North America is recalling approximately 10,900 AccuPure countertop filtered water dispensers. The units, manufactured by MTN Products Inc. in China, are black, measure about 17.5 inches tall and 12.8 inches wide, and feature the model number HCB215n on the back. These dispensers connect to plumbing systems to filter and dispense hot and cold water.
The recall is due to a hazard where the water dispensers can overheat, causing internal parts to melt and smoke. This condition poses fire and burn hazards to users. Nestlé Waters has received seven reports of parts melting, smoking, or burning, but no injuries have been reported.
The units were sold and rented to businesses nationwide for consumer use from January 2013 to May 2016 under individual service contracts. A limited number were purchased for $599.99. Consumers should immediately unplug the dispensers and stop using them. Nestlé Waters is contacting affected customers directly to schedule the installation of a free replacement unit.
