What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury or death is possible from a fall, but no injuries have been reported, fitting the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Black Diamond Equipment Ltd. is recalling approximately 100 Easy Rider and Iron Cruiser via ferrata climbing sets. The recall involves sets with manufacturing codes between 5293 and 5350, located on a sewn-in fabric label inside the zippered cover. The product was sold at specialty outdoor stores nationwide and online for between $90 and $110.
The hazard is that the climbing sets were sold without orange safety stitching on the lanyards. This defect can allow the ends of the lanyards to unexpectedly detach, posing a risk of injury or death to climbers from a fall. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled sets and inspect the lanyards for the orange safety stitching. Only sets lacking the safety stitching need to be returned for replacement. Consumers can contact Black Diamond at 800-775-5552 or online for replacement instructions.
