IKEA North America Services LLC is recalling approximately 169,000 VYSSA style crib mattresses. The recall involves five specific model names: VACKERT, VINKA, SPELEVINK, SLÖA, and SLUMMER. These mattresses were manufactured on May 4, 2014, or earlier and were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online from August 2010 to May 2014 for about $100. The mattresses were manufactured in Mexico.

The hazard exists because the mattresses could create a gap between the mattress and the crib ends that is larger than allowed by federal regulations. This gap poses an entrapment hazard to infants. IKEA has received two reports of infants becoming entrapped between the mattress and an end of the crib; in both instances, the children were removed from the gap without injury.

Consumers should inspect the recalled mattress to ensure there is no gap larger than the width of two fingers between the ends of the crib and the mattress. If any gap is larger, customers should immediately stop using the mattress and return it to any IKEA store for an exchange or a full refund.
