Baby's Dream Recalls Wooden Convertible Cribs Due to Hinge and Latch Defects

The cribs were sold nationwide for between $300 and $400 and may have been labeled with either the Baby's Dream Furniture or National Baby Furniture brand. The recall includes cribs made between 1996 and 2002, though an unknown number of units from this period may also be affected if the drop gate trigger latches are not correctly aligned.

The recall is due to defects in the drop gate hinges and latches. The three hinges along the fold-down drop gate can crack or break, allowing babies to have their fingers pinched. Additionally, a misaligned latch where the trigger does not lock securely can allow the drop gate to open if a child leans on it, potentially causing the child to fall out. Baby's Dream has received 38 reports of broken or cracked hinges, with no injuries reported from these specific defects. However, the company and the CPSC have received two reports of injuries to children when the latches did not hold: one child suffered a bruised head after falling onto the floor, and another had a crushed finger when the rail moved inward. There were five additional reports of children falling out of the cribs without injury.
