C&T International Recalls Wooden Baby Cribs Due to Side Rail Defects
C&T International is recalling about 800 wooden baby cribs because side rails can loosen, creating gaps that pose strangulation and fall risks.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (baby cribs) with potential for serious injury or strangulation, but the source explicitly states that no injuries have been reported, fitting the criteria for a High severity score.
Plain-English summary
C&T International Inc. is recalling approximately 800 full-size wooden baby cribs in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves two models: the Tracy model (item 800), a wooden sleigh crib, and the Christine model (item 210), a wooden rocker crib. These cribs were sold in juvenile product stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida between February 1994 and March 1996 for approximately $350.
The side rails on these cribs can loosen and separate, creating a space greater than 2-3/8 inches between the slats. This defect creates a risk of strangulation if a baby's head becomes entrapped between the slats, as well as a risk of serious injury if a baby falls out of the crib. CPSC is aware of five reports where the cribs' side rails were missing or loose, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should stop using the affected cribs immediately. To identify if a crib is affected, check the manufacturer's identification, which includes the item number, located on the inside headboard. Consumers can call C&T toll-free at (888) 470-1260 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday, to arrange for free replacement rails.
