Child Craft Recalls Legacy Cribs Due to Detaching Drop Side Rail Slats
Child Craft Industries is recalling 3,500 Legacy Cribs because slats on the drop side rail can loosen and detach, creating gaps that pose a risk of entanglement, strangulation, or falling.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (crib) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria for products posing a risk of harm without confirmed injuries.
Plain-English summary
Child Craft Industries, of Salem, Ind., is recalling approximately 3,500 Legacy Cribs, including model numbers 16741, 21021, 23111, and 28721. The full-size cribs were made from ash and maple woods and sold in a variety of colors. The model numbers are printed on the bottom rail of the head or foot board, and all units carry the Legacy Brand label.
The recall is due to a hazard where the slats on the drop side rail can loosen and detach. When this occurs, the resulting gaps can allow a baby to become entangled, strangle, or fall. There have been 12 reports of the slats completely detaching, but no injuries have been reported.
The recalled cribs were sold at juvenile furniture stores nationwide from March 2002 through January 2004 for between $399 and $549. Consumers should stop using the cribs immediately and contact Child Craft to receive a replacement drop side rail. Child Craft can be reached toll-free at (877) 716-2757 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, by email at [email protected], or at www.childcraftindustries.com.
