Next Level Communications, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is recalling approximately 46,000 PowDec power supplies used with Next Level ADSL/VDSL ETHERset modem units. The recalled power supplies, manufactured by PowDec Technologies, Inc., have a black plastic housing and are labeled with the model number WP12303N. These units were sold nationwide from February 1999 to May 2001 for a suggested retail price between $225 and $250.

The recall is due to a defect in an internal electrical component that can overheat, causing the plastic housing to melt or deform. This condition poses a thermal burn hazard to users. There have been eight reports of the power supplies overheating and causing melted or damaged enclosures, but no injuries have been reported.
