Ford F-150 and F-250 SD vehicles recalled for rearview camera visibility issues

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2023 F-150 and 2023-2026 F-250 SD vehicles because a software error can obstruct the rearview camera image.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-related defect that increases the risk of a crash due to reduced visibility, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2023 F-150 and 2023-2026 F-250 SD vehicles equipped with 8-inch SYNC infotainment screens. A software error may cause the infotainment home screen menu to obstruct the rearview camera image when the vehicle is placed in reverse.

This defect may reduce the driver's rear visibility, which increases the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111 regarding rear visibility.

To remedy this, the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update at no charge. Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for more information.
