Toyota hybrid inverter bolt can loosen causing power loss or fire
Toyota is recalling certain 2025-2026 Camry Hybrid and 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles because a bolt inside the inverter may not be tightened properly, causing incomplete contact at the terminal.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: an under-tightened inverter bolt can produce a total loss of motive power as well as an electrical short and fire.
Plain-English summary
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling certain 2025-2026 Camry Hybrid and 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles. About 55,405 units are potentially affected.
A bolt inside the inverter may not have been tightened properly, causing incomplete contact at the inverter terminal.
NHTSA states that incomplete contact can cause a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash, and that a loose bolt can cause an electrical short while the vehicle is powered on, increasing the risk of a fire.
Dealers will replace the inverter assembly free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed on March 11, 2026, with additional letters once the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
