Toyota Corolla steering intermediate shafts may fracture and detach

Toyota is recalling certain 2023-2024 Corolla and Corolla Hybrid vehicles because manufacturing cracks may cause the steering intermediate shaft to fracture and detach.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling certain 2023-2024 Corolla and Corolla Hybrid vehicles under NHTSA campaign number 24V878000. The potential number of units affected is 8,057.

Due to cracks developed during the manufacturing process, the steering intermediate shaft assembly may fracture and possibly result in the shaft detaching from the steering column. According to NHTSA, a steering shaft that detaches can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the intermediate steering shaft free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 17, 2025.
