Ford electronic brake booster can fail losing power brake assist

Ford is recalling certain 2025 Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Expedition, Bronco and Ranger vehicles because the Electronic Brake Booster module may malfunction, causing a loss of power brake assist.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: power brake assist can be lost while driving, which directly degrades the service brakes rather than a driver-assistance feature alone.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2025 Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Expedition, Bronco and Ranger vehicles. About 312,120 units are potentially affected.

The Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module may malfunction while driving or when the driver is using an Advanced Driver Assistance System feature, resulting in a loss of power brake assist.

NHTSA states that an unexpected loss of power brake assist while driving can extend stopping distance, and that losing it while ADAS features are engaged can result in the vehicle not braking as expected.

The EBB module software will be updated over the air or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 22, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
