Ford Recalls F-150, Expedition, Navigator for Brake Master Cylinder Leak
Ford is recalling 2016-2018 F-150, 2016-2017 Expedition, and Navigator vehicles because a brake master cylinder leak may reduce front brake function and increase crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that explicitly states conditions can increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2016-2018 Ford F-150, 2016-2017 Ford Expedition, and 2016-2017 Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with 3.5L Ecoboost engines. The recall involves approximately 195,864 vehicles.
The brake master cylinder may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster. A loss of brake fluid may result in a change in brake pedal travel, increased pedal effort, and reduced front brake function. These conditions require greater effort and distance to stop the vehicle, which can increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder free of charge. If the master cylinder is leaking, the brake booster will also be replaced. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 29, 2022. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall number 20V-332. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
