Land Rover touchscreen can go blank hiding the rearview camera image

Land Rover is recalling certain 2023 Discovery Sport, 2023-2024 Defender and 2023 Range Rover Evoque vehicles because the centre console touchscreen may go blank at startup, failing FMVSS 111.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: a rear visibility aid may not display, but the vehicle retains control and propulsion and no incidents are recorded.

Plain-English summary

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2023 Discovery Sport, 2023-2024 Defender and 2023 Range Rover Evoque vehicles. About 28,370 units are potentially affected.

The touchscreen in the centre console may go blank at vehicle startup, resulting in the rearview camera image not displaying as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility".

NHTSA states that a rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the touchscreen software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 3, 2025. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837, referencing recall number N972, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
