Jaguar E-Pace Brake Pad Warning Light May Not Activate
Jaguar is recalling certain 2021-2024 E-Pace vehicles because the brake pad wear warning light may not appear when brake pads are worn. This could reduce braking ability and increase crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Brake warning systems are critical safety features. Failure to warn drivers of worn brake pads increases crash risk due to reduced braking ability. No injuries or deaths have been reported, placing this in the high-risk category without confirmed harm.
Plain-English summary
Jaguar Land Rover North America is recalling approximately 2,842 certain 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Jaguar E-Pace vehicles. The brake pad wear warning light may not display on the instrument cluster as designed, failing to alert drivers when brake pads are worn. This issue causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, which sets requirements for light vehicle brake systems.
Driving with worn brake pads reduces braking ability and increases the risk of a crash. Jaguar dealers will update the vehicle's configuration file software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 7, 2024. Owners should contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827 to schedule the software update. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.nhtsa.gov. The recall campaign number is 24V201000, and Jaguar's internal recall number is H481.
