2021–2023 Ford Mustang Brake Fluid Warning Light Failure
Ford is recalling 2021–2023 Mustang vehicles because the brake fluid level warning light may not activate when fluid is low. Drivers could unknowingly operate vehicles with reduced braking performance, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Brake system defects create serious safety risk, but no crashes or injuries have been reported in the source material. The defect involves a warning system failure that could allow drivers to operate vehicles with low brake fluid and reduced braking performance, fitting the rubric's High-severity criterion: risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021–2023 Mustang vehicles that were previously repaired under recall 23V727. In these vehicles, the brake fluid level sensor may fail to activate the visual warning indicator when brake fluid is low.
These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 135 (Light Vehicle Brake Systems). Without the warning light, drivers may not know their brake fluid is low and may continue driving with reduced braking performance, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will update the body control module software for affected vehicles at no charge. Owners whose vehicles are affected will receive notification letters. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) for affected vehicles can be searched on NHTSA.gov. Ford's internal recall number for this campaign is 25C55.
