Audi recalls 2021 A6 and other models for incorrectly labeled brake cap
Audi is recalling certain 2019-2021 A6 and A7 models, plus 2021 A6 Allroad and S-series models, for an incorrectly labeled brake fluid cap that could result in reduced braking ability.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm vehicle safety defect affecting the critical brake system. However, no injuries, illnesses, or deaths have been reported in the source text. The source describes potential consequences using conditional language (can result in, can reduce, increase the risk) with no reported incidents. Per the rubric rules, when the source text explicitly states no illnesses/injuries reported and the hazard is theoretical, the score is at most 3.
Plain-English summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling approximately 7,499 vehicles across certain 2019-2021 Audi A6 and A7 sedans, along with 2021 models of the A6 Allroad, S6, S7, RS6, and RS7. These vehicles may have an incorrectly labeled brake fluid reservoir cap.
An incorrectly labeled brake fluid cap can result in the use of the wrong type of brake fluid. Using incorrect brake fluid reduces braking ability and increases the risk of a crash.
To address this safety issue, Audi dealers will inspect the brake fluid reservoir cap and replace it if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on October 17, 2023. Owners can contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 for service information, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153) for recall details. The recall campaign number is 23V601000.
