Rearview camera may fail on Lincoln Navigator and other Ford vehicles
Ford is recalling certain 2018-2023 Lincoln Navigator and Aviator vehicles, 2022-2023 Ford Transit, and 2021 Ford Bronco vehicles. The rearview camera may fail to display when reversing, reducing visibility and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a safety-critical defect affecting a back-over prevention camera system. While no injuries or deaths have been reported and the hazard is theoretical, the malfunction directly reduces driver rear visibility during reversing, increasing crash risk. Per the rubric, theoretical hazards without reported incidents score at most 3.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 177,402 certain 2018-2023 Lincoln Navigator and Aviator vehicles, 2022-2023 Ford Transit vehicles, and 2021 Ford Bronco vehicles. The rearview camera, or 360-degree view camera if equipped, may fail to display when the vehicle is placed in reverse.
Loss of the rearview camera image reduces the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash during reversing maneuvers.
Dealers will replace the rearview camera and update the software and wiring as necessary at no cost to owners. Lincoln owners were notified by mail on November 20, 2023, and Ford owners on March 4, 2024. Remedy parts were anticipated in the second quarter of 2024. Owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
