GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express Cutaway recalled for fire risk from exposed HVAC wiring
General Motors is recalling certain 2003-2023 GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express Cutaway vehicles with optional rear HVAC systems. Exposed wiring and connectors can corrode and overheat, creating a fire risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves exposed electrical wiring that can corrode and overheat, creating a fire risk in the vehicle. While fire is a serious hazard, the source text does not report any injuries, deaths, or actual property damage from this defect, making this a theoretical risk-of-harm scenario rather than a confirmed injury event.
Plain-English summary
General Motors, LLC is recalling certain GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express Cutaway vehicles from model years 2003 through 2023. These incomplete vehicles were equipped with wiring for an optional rear heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. The recall affects 150,830 vehicles.
When the HVAC blower motor circuit is left unused with exposed connectors and wiring, the circuit can corrode and overheat. An overheated electrical circuit increases the risk of a fire.
General Motors will remedy the defect by having dealers properly seal the rear HVAC blower motor circuits at the left side B-pillar, free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles should contact their dealer to schedule this service. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 2, 2023.
Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.
