2023 Chevrolet Traverse: Missing driveline retaining ring poses loss-of-power and rollaway risk
General Motors recalls certain 2023 Chevrolet Traverse and Blazer vehicles due to a missing retaining ring on the left-side half-shaft that can cause loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting the driveline. The missing retaining ring can cause loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, both of which create a direct risk of crash, meeting the Severe criterion for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
General Motors is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Traverse and Blazer vehicles. The left-side half-shaft assemblies in these vehicles may be missing a retaining ring, a critical component that holds the driveline together.
The missing retaining ring can cause the half-shaft inner joint to separate. This separation can result in loss of drive power, making the vehicle unable to move. Alternatively, it can cause the vehicle to roll away when parked, either of which increases the risk of a crash.
This recall affects an estimated 10 vehicles of the 2023 model year. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 23, 2023.
Owners should contact a Chevrolet dealer to have the left-side half-shaft assembly replaced at no charge. Dealerships have been authorized to perform this repair. Owners may also contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236.
