Western Star 4900 Recalled for Steering Shaft Pinch Bolt Issue

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Western Star 4900 vehicles. The recall addresses a defect where the steering shaft pinch bolt may not have been properly tightened. This condition allows the steering shaft to separate from the steering gear.
Steering shaft separation may cause a loss of steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. The defect is located in the steering gear box shaft sector component.
Dealers will inspect and replace the pinch bolt as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 28, 2022. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712.
