Jayco is recalling 2020-2021 Entegra Qwest motorhomes and related Jayco models because front seat wiring harnesses may be routed incorrectly, creating a risk of unexpected or failed airbag deployment.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Vehicle electrical system defect with potential for airbag malfunction affecting safety in a crash scenario. No injuries or deaths reported in source; hazard is theoretical. Per recall guidelines, theoretical hazards without reported injuries score at most 3.
Plain-English summary
Jayco, Inc. is recalling certain 2020 and 2021 Entegra Qwest motorhomes equipped with swivel front seats and built on Sprinter chassis. The recall also includes 2020 and 2021 Jayco Melbourne and Melbourne Prestige models with the same swivel seat configuration on Sprinter chassis. Approximately 545 vehicles are affected.
The electrical wiring harnesses for the front seat swivel mechanisms may have been routed incorrectly during manufacturing. This improper routing creates a risk that the wiring could become jammed or damaged within the swivel seat frame.
If the wiring harness becomes damaged, the side airbag in the affected seat may deploy unexpectedly during normal driving, or it may fail to deploy properly in the event of a crash. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
Owners should contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137 to arrange a free inspection and repair. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealers will perform the work, which includes inspecting the wire harness routing and repairing the wiring with added clips or cable ties as needed. The recall began on August 21, 2020. For additional information, owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
