What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety restraint system defect that increases the risk of injury in a crash, but the source text does not report any specific injuries or fatalities, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2019 and 2020 Isuzu NPR HD, NPR XD, NQR, NRR, and Chevrolet 4500HD, 4500XD, 5500HD, 5500XD, 4500, and 3500 vehicles. The recall involves vehicles equipped with a dual mode belt locking mechanism seat belt assembly. A total of 1,138 vehicles are affected.

Due to a manufacturing issue, the seat belt webbing locking mechanism may not properly restrain the occupant as intended. In the event of a crash, if the occupant is not properly restrained, there is an increased risk of injury.

Isuzu will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assembly, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 20, 2020. Owners may contact Isuzu customer service at 1-866-441-9638 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Isuzu's number for this recall is V2001.
