Mercedes-Benz Recalls 2020 GLE Models Due to Air Bag Deployment Issues

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 2020 GLE 350 and GLE 450 vehicles because the passenger air bag may deploy slowly or not at all in hot conditions, increasing injury risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-critical component (air bag) that may fail to deploy, posing a risk of injury in a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. is recalling certain 2020 GLE 350 4Matic and GLE 450 4Matic vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the passenger frontal air bag inflator module. In the event of a crash while the temperature in the passenger cabin is very high, the passenger frontal air bag deployment may be delayed or may not completely deploy.

An air bag that does not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. All affected vehicles are still within the manufacturer's control. Dealers will replace the passenger air bag module, free of charge. The recall began August 14, 2019.
