Acura Recalls 2016-2019 ILX Vehicles for Driveshaft Separation Risk
Acura is recalling 2016-2019 ILX vehicles because excessive grease may prevent a set-ring from engaging, allowing the driveshaft to separate and increase crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (driveshaft separation) that can cause loss of drive or unintended movement, increasing the risk of a crash or injury, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury reports.
Plain-English summary
Acura (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Acura ILX vehicles. The recall addresses a defect where excessive grease may prevent the set-ring on the half shaft from fully engaging. This condition allows the driveshaft to separate from the half shaft.
A separated driveshaft can cause the vehicle to have a loss of drive or allow the vehicle to move even while in Park. This increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Acura will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the driveshaft and half shaft free of charge. The recall began August 1, 2019. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
