What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (driveshaft separation/wheel lock-up) that can result in a loss of drive power or roll-away, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles due to a defect in the rear axle. An inadequate amount of rear axle lubricant may cause damage to the rear axle tail bearing and subsequent seizure. This mechanical failure can result in wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation.
The consequences of this defect include a loss of drive power. Additionally, a disconnected driveshaft can cause the vehicle to roll away when in park if the parking brake is not applied. These scenarios increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the rear axle and replace the axle bearings or axle assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 4, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
