McNeilus and Oshkosh Trucks Recalled for CNG Valve Defect
McNeilus is recalling 2016-2018 trucks and Oshkosh S-Series vehicles because a CNG fuel tank valve stem may eject, posing injury and fire risks.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the fuel system that poses a risk of injury from ejecting parts and fire from gas release, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc. is recalling certain 2016-2018 McNeilus Meridian Front Loader, Atlantic Front Loader, XE Rear Loader, Bridgemaster Mixer, Standard Mixer, and Oshkosh S-Series vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain MPVE-250 One-Turn Valves (OTV) on the compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel tanks.
The recall addresses a defect where the valve's snap ring may fail if the valve knob is turned more than one turn. This failure can cause the valve stem to forcibly eject from the valve body. The ejection of the stem may increase the risk of injury to people nearby, and the unintended release of CNG can increase the risk of a fire.
McNeilus will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected valve with a valve from another brand free of charge. The recall began on January 7, 2019. Owners may contact McNeilus customer service at 1-888-686-7278 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
