Oshkosh is recalling 2018 McNeilus Bridgemaster V Concrete Mixers because an incorrect filler neck part may cause the tank to overpressurize and rupture.
What this means for you
Our assessment, not the agency’s: severity 4/5 (Severe).
The hazard poses a serious risk of illness, injury, or structural failure. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tank rupture) with explicit reports of potential injuries from debris and burns, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Oshkosh Corporation is recalling certain 2018 McNeilus Bridgemaster V Concrete Mixer vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled under campaign 18V-322 but may have received an incorrect replacement part during that remedy. The defect involves a filler neck check valve that may seal the tank too tightly, causing the tank to overpressurize and possibly rupture.
If the tank ruptures, it may cause hydraulic fluid to spill. The ruptured tank can cause injuries from plastic debris, and the spilled hydraulic fluid could be hot, causing burn injuries. If the vehicle is on the road when the tank ruptures, the tank pieces or spilled hydraulic fluid may create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Oshkosh will notify owners and instruct them to inspect the vehicle to determine which filler neck was installed. If the incorrect part is found, dealers will replace the filler neck free of charge. The recall began on August 9, 2019. Owners may contact Oshkosh customer service at 1-888-686-7278 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
