Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chrysler 300, 2014-2016 Dodge Charger, 2014-2016 Dodge Challenger, and 2018 Dodge Challenger vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in specific Mopar Stage 1 Kit Performance Packages Powertrain Control Modules (PCM) and Demon Crate PCMs. The affected part numbers are P5160023, P5160025, and 68412287AA.
The defect could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging if a short circuit occurs within the vehicle's wiring. In such an event, the driver may be unable to shut off the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off. This could result in the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating, which increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update or replace the PCM free of charge. The recall began on July 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's numbers for this recall are U82 and U83. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
