The defect involves the brake light switch potentially failing to illuminate the vehicle's brake lights or failing to disengage the cruise control system. If the brake lights do not illuminate, other drivers may not realize the vehicle is slowing down. If the cruise control does not disengage, the vehicle may unexpectedly maintain its speed. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash.
