Newmar Recalls 2011-2013 Motorhomes for Cruise Control and Brake Light Defect
Newmar is recalling 626 motorhomes because loose diode jumpers may prevent cruise control disengagement and brake light illumination, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect affecting critical safety systems (cruise control and brake lights) that increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Newmar Corporation is recalling certain model year 2011 through 2013 Ventana Class A, Dutch Star Class A, and Mountain Aire Class A motorhomes. These vehicles were manufactured between January 25, 2010, and September 19, 2012, and are built on Freightliner brand XB and XC custom chassis. A total of 626 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The recall addresses a defect where connectors for diode jumpers may come loose, resulting in an open circuit. This issue affects two specific circuits: the one that disengages the cruise control when the brake pedal is used, and the one that illuminates the brake lights when the brake pedal is used. If the cruise control fails to disengage when brakes are applied, or if brake lights do not illuminate, the driver's intent is not communicated to other drivers, which may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
Daimler Trucks (DTNA) will notify owners on behalf of Newmar. Freightliner dealers will inspect the diode jumpers to ensure they are fully locked in place and will correct the vehicles as needed. The recall was expected to begin on January 28, 2013. Owners can contact DTNA Warranty Campaigns Department at (800) 547-0712, email [email protected], or the Customer Assistance Center at (800) FTL-HELP.
