Double K Recalls 2016-2017 Hometown Trolley Buses for Seat Belt Defect

Double K is recalling 2016-2017 Hometown Trolley buses because the seat belt buckle may be stuck in the locked position, preventing the belt from latching.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-critical component (seat belts) that may fail to function, increasing the risk of injury in a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Double K Inc. is recalling certain 2016-2017 Hometown Trolley Villager, Mainstreet, and Streetcar trackless trolley buses. The recall affects vehicles equipped with Recaro Commercial Bus Driver Seats, specifically models Ergo R, Ergo D, AM71, AM72, and AM80.

In the affected seats, the seat belt buckle may be stuck in the locked position. This defect prevents the seat belt tongue from being inserted and locked, causing the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

If the seat belt cannot be latched, the bus may be operated without the seat belt being used, which increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Double K will notify owners, and dealers will replace the buckle housings free of charge. The recall began on November 10, 2017. Owners may contact Recaro customer service at 1-248-364-3818 or Double K customer service at 1-715-478-5090.
