GM Recalls 2016-2017 Buick Envision for Headliner Safety Defect
General Motors is recalling 2016-2017 Buick Envision vehicles because replacement headliners may lack required impact-absorbing foam, increasing injury risk in crashes.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (missing impact-absorbing foam) that increases the risk of occupant injury in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain 2016-2017 Buick Envision vehicles. The recall addresses vehicles that previously received a replacement headliner as part of a repair. These specific service parts may not have had impact energy-absorbing foam blocks attached, causing the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 201, "Occupant protection in interior impact."
If the service parts are missing the energy-absorbing foam blocks, there is an increased risk of occupant injury in the event of a crash. The recall began on July 28, 2017.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headliner assembly free of charge. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. GM's number for this recall is 17275.
