What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seat belt retractor failure) that compromises occupant protection in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Polaris Industries, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2015 GEM EL, ES, E4, E4S, ELXD, E6, E6S, and E2 vehicles manufactured between December 15, 2014, and August 25, 2015. The recall involves 1,364 vehicles.
The seat belts in the affected vehicles have retractor mechanisms that may fail, causing the seat belt to be stuck in one position. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." If the seat belt does not retract or extend, the occupant may not be properly secured in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
GEM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt assemblies free of charge. The recall began on December 31, 2015. Owners may contact GEM Consumer Service Department at 1-855-743-3436. Polaris' number for this recall is L-15-02.
