What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-critical component (fire extinguisher) that may fail to function, creating a risk of injury in the event of a fire, but no injuries or deaths have been reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2012-2016 NPR, NPR-HD, NPR-XD, NQR, and NRR diesel trucks and 2012-2015 NPR and NPR-HD gasoline-powered trucks. The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 24, 2011, and August 27, 2015. These trucks may have been equipped with certain Kidde plastic valve disposable handheld fire extinguishers, model FC10.

The defect is that the fire extinguishers may not properly discharge when the lever is pressed. In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not work correctly, there is an increased risk of injury.

Isuzu will notify owners and instruct them to order replacement fire extinguishers free of charge directly from Kidde Safety at www.kidde.com, toll-free at (855)283-7991, or by contacting and visiting a dealer. The recall began on January 18, 2016. Owners may also contact Isuzu customer service at 1-866-441-9638 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
