Turtle Top Transit Buses Recalled for Electrical Fire Risk

Turtle Top is recalling certain 2006-2014 transit buses and specialty vehicles because a loose electrical connection may cause a fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical system) that increases the risk of a vehicle fire, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury/property-damage potential.

Plain-English summary

Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Odyssey, 2011 Odyssey LT, 2006-2012 Terra Transport, 2014 Terra Transport, and 2014 Van Terra vehicles built on a GM chassis with a 6.6L engine. These vehicles are equipped with Trans-Air add-on compressor mount kits installed by Trans-Air personnel. The recall affects 355 units.

The defect involves a power distribution terminal strip that may not have been properly reconnected after the compressor installation. If the connection is poor or loose, the strip may arc or overheat, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Turtle Top will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the power distribution terminal strip connection and correct it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 19, 2015. Owners may contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-800-673-2446 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
