Turtle Top Recalls 2013 Transit Buses Due to Wheelchair Lift Fire Risk

Turtle Top is recalling 2013 Odyssey and Van Terra buses because wheelchair lift cables may cause a short circuit and fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where a short circuit could result in a fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2013 Odyssey and Van Terra transit buses manufactured between April 11, 2013, and December 5, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with specific Ricon S series and K series wheelchair lifts that include an optional armored pendant cable.

The armored cable may be positioned in a way that it does not clear the wheelchair lift. If the cable contacts the power lug and lacks a proper nonconductive cover, a short circuit may occur, potentially resulting in a fire.

Turtle Top will notify owners, and Ricon will send a supplemental cover kit and instructions free of charge. This recall began in June 2014 and is a continuation of campaign 13V-263. Owners may contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-800-296-2105 or Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884.
