Toyota Recalls 2015 Siennas for Potential Trim Panel Detachment Risk
Toyota is recalling 2015 Siennas with dealer-installed entertainment systems because a reused clip may allow a trim panel to detach during airbag deployment.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural component that may detach and strike occupants during airbag deployment, representing a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain model year 2015 Toyota Sienna vehicles manufactured between September 1, 2014, and April 13, 2015. These vehicles were equipped with overhead entertainment accessories installed by SET. During the reassembly of the interior after the installation, a trim panel securing clip may have been reused instead of being replaced with a new one.
If the clip was damaged during the installation process, the trim panel may detach in the event of a side curtain air bag deployment. A detached panel could strike a vehicle occupant, increasing the risk of injury.
SET will notify owners, and dealers will replace the trim panel securing clip free of charge. The recall began on May 22, 2015. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
