Toyota Recalls Corolla and Sienna for Damaged A-Pillar Trim Clips
Toyota is recalling 2010-2011 Corollas and 2011 Siennas with specific aftermarket accessories because damaged A-pillar trim clips could allow panels to come loose in a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a structural component (A-pillar trim) that could injure an occupant in a crash, fitting the 'High' severity criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Toyota Corolla vehicles equipped with a non-Toyota Bluetooth hands-free device or navigation unit, as well as certain model year 2011 Toyota Sienna vehicles equipped with a non-Toyota overhead entertainment system and/or Bluetooth hands-free device. The recall involves approximately 518 vehicles.
The defect is a possibility that the front A-pillar trim panel retention clip may have been damaged during the installation of the aftermarket accessory. A damaged retention clip may allow the trim panel to come loose and injure an occupant in the event of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the A-pillar trim panel retention clip and replace it if necessary free of charge. The safety recall began on December 30, 2011. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
