General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured between May 7, 2014, and July 28, 2014. The recall addresses a defect where the center storage console may fail to remain latched in the event of an accident. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 201, "Occupant Protection In Interior Impact."

The defect increases the risk of occupant injury because the storage compartment door may not remain closed during a crash. General Motors has not yet made parts available to remedy this condition. Owners will receive an interim notification in early October 2014, followed by a second letter when parts become available.
