General Motors is recalling specific 2008-2013 Buick, GMC, Chevrolet, and Saturn SUVs because side air bag wiring may prevent deployment in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where safety restraints may fail to deploy, increasing the risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury risk.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling approximately 1.18 million model year 2008-2013 Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, and Saturn Outlook vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the driver and passenger seat-mounted side impact air bag (SIAB) wiring harnesses. Increased resistance in these harnesses may result in the side impact air bags and seat belt pretensioners failing to deploy in the event of a crash.
The failure of these safety systems to deploy increases the risk of injury to the driver and front seat occupant during a collision. The recall began on June 16, 2014. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections free of charge. Vehicles previously repaired under Customer Satisfaction Campaign 10085 or special coverage 10335 are not included in this safety recall as the condition has already been addressed.
Owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov for more information. Specific manufacturer contact numbers are available for Buick, Chevrolet, Saturn, and GMC owners.
